How much did a teacher get paid in Saudi Arabia?

While searching for a job as a teacher in Saudi Arabia, the first question that comes to your mind is, “How much did I get paid?” Well, it depends on three factors: your qualifications, experience, and the type of school you work for.

Public schools usually pay between 9,000 – 14,000 SAR per month, which in Pakistani Rupees will become 650,000 to 1,035,000 PKR. However, hiring foreign teachers in public schools is less common. They reserve seats for Saudi locals except for English, Mathematics, and Science.

International schools relatively pay more, the salaries range between 12,000 – 20,000 SAR (850,000 to 1,480,000 PKR Appx.). Riyadh is the best city to work as a foreign teacher. It has the highest number of international schools (52 Appx.) in any KSA city, and it often hires qualified staff worldwide.

If you work as a private tutor or home tutor, you can easily earn between 150 – 300 SAR per hour. These salaries may vary depending on your subject and experience.

Benefits of teaching in Saudi Arabia:

Most schools (international) provide free housing.

In KSA, your employer will cover your health care.

Tax-free salary so that you can take home the maximum of your income

Some schools offer free visas for your spouse (married partner) and children.

All these benefits make Saudi Arabia an excellent option for teaching jobs.

Qualifications you must fulfill:

Each job position requires specific qualifications depending on the institute’s needs, but here is a general breakdown of the most common qualifications a Saudi school looks for.

You must be a BS or BSC graduate in the subject you want to teach. However, with the evolving needs of the new Saudi Vision Plan 2030, STEM subjects (Science, Technology, English, Mathematics, etc.) are preferred.

Most schools in the Kingdom prefer candidates with certifications like B.Ed, PGCE, TEFL, or CELTA, especially for teaching English. You'll need to read the selected job description for precise certifications.

You must also have 2-3 years of teaching experience in your native country. However, some schools also hire fresh candidates, but the number is few.

Is B.ED mandatory?

It is preferred but not compulsory, especially if you have other relevant qualifications like TEFL or PGCE. However, having a B.Ed degree is a good move because higher education always gives an edge and increases your chances of getting selected.

Basic Requirements before applying for a job:

Before applying for a teaching job, you must meet the following requirements:

A valid Passport

Teaching certifications.

Your degree must be attested by HEC and the Saudi embassy in Pakistan.

Work experience letter from previous employers (for experienced candidates).
